bazooka 6.5" el subwoofer
tips and advice This particular Bazooka is a self powered 6.5" tube (with a built-in amplifier) from the EL series. The Bazooka works together with the factory woofers to give a well rounded bottom end to the sound. Although it may look small, the tube moves a suprising amount of air for its size. The HU's equalizer set as follows yielded the best results:
Treble +3 The Bazooka, as with any other speaker, will distort when it is turned up to high. For this reason the best results were found with the Bazooka's volume knob set 2/5ths up, and any fine tuning made with the HU's bass control. At the time of installation, a larger Bazooka with a more powerful built-in amp was suggested to compliment the Monsoon's amp. This is because the output of the Monsoon amplifier will overdrive the smaller tubes, causing them to distort even at low volumes. Again, nothing besides replacing the stock HU with a new one is really needed because the Monsoon soundsystem is not bad when it comes to factory car audio. If you are not a hardcore audiophile then change your HU, chances are you will be happier than stock (plus more cargo space will be retained). If you do not have a Monsoon, then a new HU and aftermarket amp would probably be in order before considering a subwoofer. installation notes There are no actual installation pics because the Bazooka was professionally installed. Because of the complexity of the wiring in, and the lack of schematics of the Monsoon amplifier, it was considered best to leave the job to a professional installer as they would know how to best connect everything. One thing to take note of is how the Bazooka is mounted in the cargo area. As a cargo liner is used in the winter months, drilling holes through it to bolt the tube down would have made the liner pointless. The installer was asked to screw the strap mounting points to the side of the car (as the photographs below show). The tube does not roll around at all as long as the straps are kept taut.
