headlight height adjustment guide
guide summary
This guide will explain how to adjust the level and (left/right) bias of the beam from any of the headlights on any of the Mk. IVs.
tools needed
- Hex head screwdriver
- Philips head screwdriver
adjustment instructions
- Open the hood
- Unscrew and remove the cover above the right side headlight that has a lightbulb symbol embossed on it
- If you plan on replacing the light bulbs, simply remove the tension clip that holds the (waterproof) cover on the back of the headlight units. The bulb harnesses simply twist out (as do the bulbs), but the most difficult part is the minimal amount of space within which to work.
- On the top side of the headlight units, you will find two hex shaped adjustment points. The one on the outside changes the level of the light (clockwise for up, counter-clockwise for down). The one on the inside changes the left right bias of the beam (these are the so-called "bunny ears" in the beam pattern).
- Use the photo below to select which beam pattern suits your car. The car on the left has NA-spec halogen headlights, and the one on the right has Euro-spec HID headlights
- Park your car on a flat surface with the front directly perpendicular to, and about 6 feet away from, a flat wall. The headlight beam should be approximately 14" up the wall. The "bunny ears" should point straight up, or have a slightly outward cant.
