headunit removal/installation guide

introduction

This guide will assist in removing the stock headunit, and installing either VW's OEM in dash CD player or an aftermarket headunit. This guide is arranged in a step-by-step fashion, with this page being the first step of four.

The headunit of the car is the source of all the sound output, and as such is usually considered to be the most crucial part. As mentioned in other parts of this site, changing the headunit is almost guaranteed to improve sound quality without spending too much money or time. There are hundreds of available heaunits that include the run of the mill tape and CD players, to the MD and MP3 players that are becoming more common. Look for a headunit that is up to the task, and pay special attention to the peak power output, as well as the size of the headunit chassis (casing). These are usually two things that determine whether or not a particular headunit will make the cut.
